Go North East is the region's largest operator, running Tyneside, Wearside and County Durham with strongly branded routes. Arriva North East covers Teesside, Darlington and Northumberland, Stagecoach runs Newcastle, Sunderland and Hartlepool, and Nexus coordinates the Tyne and Wear network.

Getting around by bus

Durham's cathedral and castle sit on a peninsula above the city, and the Cathedral Bus runs up from the bus and rail stations. Newcastle's buses connect at Eldon Square and Haymarket with the Metro.
